The filing fee of $50.00 must be in the form of a bank check, cashier's check or money order made payable to the "State Treasurer of Wisconsin." Personal checks and cash are not accepted. Under certain limited circumstances, a hardship affidavit may be filed instead of the fee.

The filing fee only applies to some of the various types of appeals. A filing fee (or a hardship affidavit) must be submitted with:

Appeals from decisions made by the Administrator of the Division of Merit Recruitment and Selection under s. 230.44(1)(a), Wis. Stats.

Appeals from certain decisions attributable to the Director of the Office of State Employment Relations (OSER) under s. 230.44(1)(b), Wis. Stats.

Certain 4th step grievances under s. 230.45(1)(c), Wis. Stats.

Certain appeals authorized under county merit system rules, under s. 230.45(1)(e), Wis. Stats.
