The five "Search . . ." links above open to customized advanced
search screens using the State of
Ultraseek searching allows users to obtain results lists with title hits listed ahead of body text hits or to obtain results lists with found files listed roughly by date order of file posting on the WERC website. Because the Ultraseek search engine is maintained by the State of Wisconsin, its reliability for promptness and comprehensiveness of access to all WERC website files is better than Google's. Google searches allow the user to: see the initial instance of each search term in its text context, view PDF file text converted to HTML with all search terms highlighted, and perform searches limited to files found by the previous search.
To perform an Ultraseek search, enter just your search terms (in lower case unless case specificity becomes necessary to your search, without punctuation, and without "and", "or", "+" etc.) in place of the words "Enter Your Search Terms Here" on the advanced search screen that appears when you click on one of the links above, adjust any of the other search parameters listed on the screen, and click the "search" button at the bottom of the search screen (or the Enter key on your keyboard). The search results page should reappear within seconds, now displaying the search screen with the search terms and settings you entered, followed by a results list listing pages from the WERC website that contain all or some of the search terms that you entered. (To view that results list, either scroll down or use page-down key on your keyboard.) Clicking on one of the listed results opens to the beginning of the found file. In most instances the file will be in the PDF format. To find a word within a found PDF file, use the Find and Find again buttons on your Acrobat plug-in toolbar (the Find button on your browser will not find hits within PDF files.) To return to the results list from a found file, use your browser's BACK command. For sample searches and additional search tips [click here].
The customized searches accessible from the above links are set to show results in descending order of relevance, that the results list will let you know how many matches were found and will rate them with percentages, with 100% finding an exact match to a specific query. The most relevant content will be listed first. If you find that your search results are not relevant or too broad, go back and add some more specific terms and search again. The same is true if you do not get any results; you might have been too specific. Go back and try some broader words to define your search. Enter your search terms in lower case for searching regardless of case. Enter upper case letters to produce case-sensitive results
